A Cosmic Movie Camera

3D modeling and virtual exhibition environment

Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement 2024

Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève

Lede

A virtual exhibition co-developed with EPOCH Gallery for the 18th Biennale

de l'Image en Mouvement — one of Europe's most significant exhibitions of

moving image art, held at the Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève (CAC Genève)

and curated by Nora N. Khan and Andrea Bellini.

The physical show ran January 24 – May 16, 2024, featuring fifteen

internationally commissioned artists. Running in parallel — and designed

to outlast the physical exhibition — was a full 3D virtual world built

by EPOCH, in which the same works could be experienced by anyone, anywhere.

Brief

Build a 3D model of the city block surrounding the Centre d'Art Contemporain

Genève for a mixed reality / digital twin of the physical exhibition — a speculative and navigable virtual environment that translated the artists' works into a three-dimensional spatial context.

Process

Working as 3D Modeler within EPOCH's production team — led by founder Peter Wu+ — my role was the precise 3D modeling of the city block surrounding the CAC Genève, reconstructed from reference and site documentation.

Outcome

The virtual exhibition launched alongside the physical show and remained

accessible online beyond the May 16 closing — extending the reach of the

Biennale to audiences who could not travel to Geneva.

The project was covered by Mousse Magazine, Elephant, Flash Art, Spike Art Magazine, and e-flux, among others.

The exhibition catalogue — Andrea Bellini and Nora N. Khan, eds., A Cosmic Movie Camera: Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement 2024 — was published by Lenz Press and CAC Genève in 2026.
